12v led strip lighting is rapidly becoming one of the most popular methods for using light in vehicles. It’s durable, has a wide range of power usage, and is also fully waterproof. It’s easy to install and easy to hide or show (bright or dimmed). The only issue that you may worry about when deciding to use this kind of light is how to wire 12v led strip lights in the car. Well, there is no need to worry anymore because I will explain the process in just a moment.

How to wire 12v led strip lights in car?

It is easy to do. Just get the power from a battery or directly from the car’s electrical system. I would recommend getting the car battery power because that is the most reliable power source. You can do it in the following ways

  • (1) Check the car manual to find out where the battery is. Then, take off the black plastic cover(if there is) right next to it. Next, remove the terminal end cap, and find the pigtail with wires coming out. This is the wire that you’re going to tap into. The wire color doesn’t matter.
  • (2) Get a wiretap connector, and connect it to the pigtail wire. Then, get a wire (any color) from the main battery terminal, and connect the wiretap connector to it, and you’re done.
  • (3) If you want to wire it permanently to the car, you can get a wiretap connector and a wire, cut off the connector, and solder them together. Then, go to the terminal and cap that you unloaded earlier, and open it. Put the wire into the hole and tighten it, and you’re done. Enjoy!

Connect a 12-volt power source to the relay by running a wire from the rear of the vehicle, up to the headlight. Use a fuse to protect the power wires from a short circuit. For instance, the red light will be connected to the “load” terminal of the relay. Towards the “source” of the relay, you will run another wire to the headlight and connect it to the positive terminal. Then strip about an inch off of the other end of the wire so that you have about three inches of wire exposed. Next, use the wire stripper again to expose the wires and then twist the exposed wires together. Do the same thing to the other end of the wire.

The red and black leads of the LED strip should be connected to the positive and negative terminals of the power source respectively.
